When you think about your calling do you think about some massive purpose? One that amounts to success beyond your wildest dreams, that fits your lifestyle perfectly? Or maybe you believe that your calling is a purpose that completely aligns with your chosen career path. Or maybe just maybe it is that your calling is a reflection of how productive you could be?
i was one of those people
So many people suffer anxiety and depression because they think that they are not living out their “calling”. I was one of those people! Bound and determined, I would convince my husband that I cannot do my “calling” while doing the career I am in. He would snicker and say “You are doing your calling everyday!”
my husband was snuffing me out
This would annoy me beyond words and I would pout around like he was destroying and snuffing out my God Given POTENTIAL! Christ needed to work through me in miraculous ways, and I needed to make a difference in the world! Well, my friend I had it ALL WRONG. I do not make the difference at anything I do. It is Christ in me that shines. I am merely the body of transport with a bright smile. So, when I realized this, I thought well common Jessica shine that smile brighter somewhere Christ is needed and this would definitely mean a career shift!
wait my husband was right
The truth is our calling does not have anything to do with how or where we make our money! It is how we walk in our day to day environment that is our calling. Are you a natural leader, follower, healer, teacher, preacher, mentor, listener, counselor? I think you get the picture. Now, maybe you will be blessed to have a career where you can utilize your calling daily, that is wonderful! However, I know now what my husband was trying to say to me.
walk in the way he made you
I am a coach, an evangelist, a motivator and a right fighter for anything Christ. I am called to walk in this way for HIM! This is my natural God-given calling. His calling on my life works through me in any environment! My calling shines through me in the grocery store, the gas station and yes, especially while I am selling Real Estate.
it’s not the DO it’s the WHO
Being called to walk a path has nothing to do with the DO and everything to do with the WHO. What I mean by this is, who I am inside is my calling and what I do to make money does not have to correlate to be walking in alignment with my calling.
a career doesn’t equal purpose
I am a sum of a whole body. Every part of me helps God’s calling on my life. A good friend reminded me that, “We are not a tree stuck in one place, our calling follows us, because it is us.” God calls us to flow, move and share our calling no matter where we are. You are called to be who God created you to be. And he doesn’t make mistakes on his creations. It is however our job to be in relationship with Christ to fully figure out who He has perfectly designed us to be… a fancy word for “calling”.
God prepared us in advance
I am reminded of a scripture in Ephesians 2:10 which says it so eloquently, “For we are Gods handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS? He prepared us to be ‘handy’ and to do good works and he did it before we even knew what that would be! This my friend is the BEST news to anyone who struggles with their ‘calling’. He already has made it in you, now it is up to you to figure out what verbs describe your calling or your ‘handiwork’.
how do I know what my calling is?
A great way to figure out your calling is to look up some verbs that may describe personality traits that you feel are like you. A great idea is to ask friends for verbs that resonate with them when they think of you. This is a great start to finding out your calling. Where ever you walk on earth, this calling is in you, because my friend, it is you.
let me shine my calling in your life
I would be so happy to coach you along the way to finding your God-given calling. If you want to email me I will personally find time to respond, and shine my calling in your life. God bless you, and may the Lord show you His plan for your calling today!
